Showing in Spain and Portugal: what to know

The answer

Two FCI countries, shows all year round and a climate that changes how you prepare.

Who runs the shows

In Spain, the Real Sociedad Canina de España (RSCE); in Portugal, the Clube Português de Canicultura (CPC). Both are FCI members: international shows award the CACIB, and the national certificate is called the CAC.

On the day

Heat comes first: in summer many shows judge early in the morning or in the evening. Bring water, shade and a cooling mat.

The EU pet passport is enough when travelling from another EU country, with a microchip and a valid rabies vaccination.

Rules change: always check the current conditions on the national kennel club's and the organiser's websites before entering.
