Can you change an entry to a dog show?

The answer

Yes, an entry can be changed under certain conditions. Changing class or replacing the dog entered are among the procedures provided for by SCC Expo and CEDIA (French entry platforms). But be careful: the procedure depends on the platform and the show’s deadlines must be respected. A request being sent does not necessarily mean it is accepted. [1][2][3]

This article concerns shows in France. The FCI rules cited apply to international CACIB shows held under its patronage.

A mistake? The right reflex is to act quickly

Have you just confirmed your dog’s entry and noticed the wrong class? Take a breath: the platforms offer procedures for requesting a change.

On SCC Expo:

  • Class change at the same fee: log in, then open « Mon compte » (My account) → « Engagements terminés » (Completed entries) → « Modifier » (Edit).
  • Replacing the dog entered: write to sccexpo.contact@centrale-canine.fr, stating the dog to be withdrawn as well as the replacement’s name, identification and class.
  • Change of variety: the official help page says to re-enter the dog, then contact that same service by email.

For any other correction, or a class change at a different fee, ask the service which procedure to follow.

On CEDIA:

From « Votre compte / Vos engagements » (Your account / Your entries), open a new change request, then select the show, the dog and the change you want. Eligible requests can concern a change of class or a replacement of dog. A supplement may be charged; acceptance or refusal is communicated by email.

The calendar matters as much as the form

CEDIA states one to two working days of processing, sometimes more when a supplement is needed. A request made too close to the closing date may therefore not be processed.

For FCI international CACIB shows, the rule is precise: after the closing date, moving from one class to another is forbidden, unless there has been an administrative error by the organising committee. A personal mistake when entering does not fall under this exception.

Also read the event’s entry form.

MyDogShow tip: Look for the deadline for changes: some shows set one that remains valid even if entries are extended. Don’t assume it applies to other shows, though: each event sets its own conditions.

A concrete example

You entered Oslo in the open class and you now want to show him in the intermediate class.

At an FCI international show, this class is for dogs aged 15 months to under 24 months, with age calculated on the day the dog is shown. If Oslo meets that condition, you can request the change, following the procedure and the deadlines. His age makes this choice possible; it does not guarantee that a late request will be accepted.

Beginner: three habits to avoid nasty surprises

  1. Reread your entry as soon as it is confirmed. Check the dog selected, its identification, the show and the class chosen.
  2. Report a mistake immediately. Have your entry number ready and state clearly the current information and the correction you want.
  3. Keep the confirmation. On CEDIA, wait for the acceptance email before treating the change as done.

Intermediate: three tips for handling your change

  1. Check the age on the day of the show. At an FCI international, that date determines access to the classes.
  2. Allow a processing margin. Avoid waiting until the day before the closing date, especially if an additional payment is needed.
  3. Use the replacement procedure provided. If you want to show a different dog, officially request the substitution and wait for it to be accepted.

Advanced: three tips for building a solid file

  1. Anticipate the supporting documents. At an FCI international, the working class requires the appropriate certificate; the champions class requires an eligible title homologated (officially confirmed) by the official closing date at the latest, with a supporting copy.
  2. Check the specific deadline for changes. An extension of entries does not necessarily extend that deadline.
  3. Document an error by the organisers. If your confirmed entry shows the right class but another one appears later, keep the proof and send it to the secretariat. The FCI regulations provide an exception for administrative errors by the organising committee.
